Lessons Learned From Startup CEOs: Mark Maunder
Mark Maunder is a serial entrepreneur who is currently the founder and CEO of Feedjit which makes those cool widgets in the right sidebar on this blog (where people visited from, which pages most visited). Mark Maunder is also the founder and CEO of Geojoey.com[1] and the founder and former CEO of WorkZoo.com[2], one of the first job meta-search engines and voted one of the 50 best websites of 2005 by Time Magazine[3].
Mark was born in South Africa in 1974 and moved to London at age 23
where he worked as a consultant for 5 years for companies that include
Coca Cola, Credit Suisse First Boston and the BBC. While in London he
founded a UK only version of WorkZoo.com. He later moved to California
and created a US version of the WorkZoo.com job search engine. [Source: Wikipedia]
I asked Mark to share some of his key learnings as a startup CEO.
In Mark's own words:
- Fail quickly and repeatedly until you find something that sticks and
then commit yourself to that idea completely and run with it
. - Every dollar spent needs to be managed by someone which is why funding can kill a great startup.
- There are good people in the tech startup community that give
unselfishly of their time and who you can trust. They were once where
you are. If you're lucky enough to know some of them they can give you
invaluable guidance and wisdom. Remember to pay it forward when it's
your turn.
- Time is your most precious resource and can be your biggest competitive advantage if you can execute quickly.
- Be aware of your competition but focus on the opportunity.
